The company

Founded in 2010, we have built a strong reputation on the back of our unique handmade timber furnishings and our no compromising sustainable ethos.

We are passionate about sourcing the most unusual timber like storm affected and naturally fallen trees through to the recycling old telegraph poles, creating a special place to break bread with your kin.

Our raw material is so unique that no two pieces will ever be the same. Each piece is tied to its intrinsic story, the life it led, the beauty it added to its surrounding environment and now its new life which will be celebrated in your space for a lifetime.

The director

Sawn was founded by industrial designer Paul Hulsinga with the intent on changing the timber furnishing industry in Australia.

He went on a journey to find the most unusual timber to use in his premium furnishings, initially working exclusively with recycled timber he was amazed with the exceptional local opportunities to use storm affected hardwood, naturally fallen and dead trees.

His skill in working with unique materials has been the cornerstone of the Sawn brand which only includes one off and limited edition runs.

The transformation from the raw material to the finished product was nothing short of breath taking and is now why Sawn is regarded as one of the top designers in Australia.
